Battery recycling consortium with Technology Minerals' Recyclus announces funding - ICYMI

Technology Minerals PLC (LSE:TM1) this week highlighted a key development as its battery recycling subsidiary, Recyclus Group, revealed its role in a new UK consortium aimed at scaling domestic lithium black mass refining capacity.

A three-year £8.1 million funding arrangement has been agreed for the group, which also includes Mint Innovation, Jaguar Land Rover and the University of Warwick’s manufacturing group.

The project will build out Mint’s low-carbon hydrometallurgical technology to process black mass from spent lithium-ion batteries.

Technology Minerals confirmed that 50% of the programme funding – ie £4.05 million – has been secured through the Department of Business and Trade and the Advanced Propulsion Centre.

Chairman Robin Brundle and CEO Alex Stanbury joined Proactive to talk about it.

Brundle said the consortium represents the outcome of more than two years of development and partner engagement. “We're very proud that this consortium has come together,” he noted, adding that the programme will support UK resilience and reduce reliance on virgin material extraction.

Stanbury said the announcement follows sustained operational progress during 2025, describing the first half of the year as a culmination of foundational work. He added that the company is focused on further customer wins and scaling throughput volumes.

Stanbury also emphasised the strategic aim of achieving a cradle-to-cradle solution. “We’ve always wanted to have a cradle-to-cradle solution and have that in the UK for the UK circularity piece,” he said.

The company continues to position itself within the UK's evolving battery supply chain, offering recycling infrastructure as part of broader ESG and net-zero objectives.
