Mark Zuckerberg and several former Facebook board members have avoided testifying in an $8 billion privacy lawsuit after reaching a last-minute settlement, according to reports from the US.
The case, brought by Meta shareholders, accused directors of failing to oversee Facebook’s compliance with a 2012 agreement with US regulators to protect user data.
The lawsuit followed the Cambridge Analytica scandal, which led to a record $5 billion fine by the US Federal Trade Commission in 2019. The settlement terms were not disclosed.
Zuckerberg, Marc Andreessen, Peter Thiel and others had been due to appear in a Delaware court.
They denied the claims, which included allegations that Facebook was knowingly run as an unlawful data-harvesting operation.
