Small Cap Watch: S&P/ASX Small Ordinaries dips as small-cap explorers release project updates

The S&P/ASX Small Ordinaries Index closed down 5.20 points or 0.16% at 3,289.30 on Tuesday, trimming gains made over the past week. Despite the daily dip, the index remains up 1.80% over the last five trading sessions.

Buru Energy targets regional gas growth from Rafael

Buru Energy Ltd (ASX:BRU, OTC:BRNGF) provided a development update on its wholly owned Rafael Gas Project in Western Australia’s onshore Canning Basin. The conventional gas and liquids discovery, made in 2021, represents the first of its kind in the region north of Karratha. The project is positioned to replace trucked or imported fuel in northern WA, offering a local energy source with potential for strong regional cash flows and shareholder returns.

Kairos advances gold drilling at Mt York

Kairos Minerals Ltd (ASX:KAI, OTCQB:KAIFF) reported results from the first 16 diamond holes drilled at its Mt York Gold Project in the Pilbara. The holes, drilled at Gossan Hill, Breccia Hill, and Main Hill, support the current 1.4 million ounce gold resource at the Main Trend and form part of a broader resource growth strategy.

IonicRE secures land for Brazil rare earths hub

Ionic Rare Earths Ltd (ASX:IXR, OTC:IXRRF) announced that its Brazilian joint venture, Viridion Rare Earth Technologies, was granted land in Poços de Caldas for the construction of a rare earths innovation and recycling centre. The Centre for Rare Earths Innovation, Technology and Recycling (CRITR) is scheduled to begin operations in the second half of 2026, subject to approvals.

FireFly Metals reports high-grade Green Bay results

FireFly Metals Ltd (ASX:FFM, TSX:FFM, OTC:MNXMF) released high-grade assay results from the Ming underground mine at its Green Bay Copper-Gold Project. The site features two styles of mineralisation: VMS copper-gold lenses and a broader copper-rich footwall zone. A multi-rig drill program is ongoing to grow and upgrade existing resources.

Cyprium Metals progresses Nifty site optimisation

Cyprium Metals Ltd (ASX:CYM, OTC:CYPMF) confirmed the sale of surplus generators from its Nifty Copper Complex in Western Australia, consistent with its previous disclosures. The move is part of a phased restart strategy aimed at bringing the copper asset back into production.
