Ford shares reverse as it recalls vehicles over fuel injector issues

Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) shares pulled back almost 3% after the automaker announced it is recalling approximately 694,000 vehicles in the United States due to fuel injector issues that may cause fuel leaks and increase the risk of engine fires.

This recall primarily affects certain 2021 to 2024 Bronco Sport and 2020 to 2022 Escape models equipped with 1.5-liter engines.

The problem stems from fuel injectors that can develop cracks, potentially allowing fuel to leak into the engine compartment. This leaked fuel can make contact with hot engine surfaces, posing a serious fire hazard.

Ford has identified at least eight cases where cracked fuel injectors led to fires under the hood, though there have been no reported injuries related to these fires.

Ford has notified affected owners and is arranging for free repairs through authorized dealers. The company expects to incur a special $570 million charge in its 2025 second quarter financial results to cover the cost of repairs.

This recall comes just days after Ford recalled about 850,000 vehicles due to the potential failure of the low-pressure fuel pump, which can cause engines to stall while driving.

This recall covers a wide range of popular Ford and Lincoln models from 2021 to 2023, including the Ford Bronco, Explorer, F-150, Mustang, and Lincoln Aviator and Navigator.

Ford’s wave of recalls so far in 2025, recalling close to 8 million vehicles, has exceeded the total number of recalls last year, at 4.8 million.

Shares of Ford traded down 2.9% at about $11 shortly before noon on Wednesday.
