Great Southern Copper encouraged by latest data that hints at mineral extension in Chile

Great Southern Copper PLC (LSE:GSCU) has shared the results of recent geophysical surveys at its Cerro Negro prospect in Chile, uncovering a 2.5-kilometre-long anomaly that could signal extensions of copper and silver mineralisation beyond the existing Mostaza mine.

The company used a technique called gradient array induced polarisation, or IP, which measures how rocks conduct and store electrical charges, an indicator often linked to the presence of metal-bearing minerals.

The survey’s chargeability highs closely match areas where previous drilling found copper-silver sulphide deposits.

These anomalies also coincide with zones of low resistivity, suggesting hydrothermal alteration, a process where hot fluids change the surrounding rock, often associated with mineral deposits.

Importantly, the geophysical targets align with surface rock samples showing unusual mineral concentrations, strengthening the case for extending mineralisation south along the Mostaza Fault Zone.

Great Southern Copper is awaiting further survey data from pole-dipole IP and audio-frequency magneto-telluric methods, which will help refine drilling targets ahead of its planned third phase of exploration.

Chief Executive Sam Garrett said the recent results are an “exciting development” confirming the potential for mineralisation to extend southwards, and expressed anticipation for the final survey results to support upcoming drilling plans.

"The exploration results across the Especularita project are both compelling and transformative, advancing the project significantly," he added.

"As such, the company has decided to prioritise its spending focus at Especularita and will not proceed further with its San Lorenzo and Monti projects.

"With capital raising conditions still challenging, this is considered to be the most effective solution for maximising the potential of this opportunity."
