American Resources portfolio company ReElement Technologies launches magnet-to-mining service for rare earths

ReElement Technologies, a portfolio company of American Resources Corp (NASDAQ:AREC, OTC:ARECW), has launched a toll processing service to refine recycled permanent magnets into high-purity rare earth oxides, including neodymium, praseodymium, dysprosium, and terbium.

The new offering achieves purities of 99.5% or greater at a processing cost of $25 to $35 per kilogram, the company said. The tolling service enables ReElement to receive used magnets from partners and return them as separated and purified oxides.

According to the company, its process achieves recovery rates above 90% and can handle a wide range of feedstocks.

These materials are then reintroduced into the magnet production cycle by domestic manufacturers, forming a fully circular, US-based magnet supply chain.

These include magnets sourced from wind turbines, electric vehicle rotors, hard drives, power tools, and magnetic separators, as well as magnetic swarf from manufacturing operations.

In addition to neodymium, praseodymium, dysprosium, and terbium, ReElement is also refining other critical and strategic minerals such as gallium, germanium, gadolinium, samarium, cobalt, and yttrium.

Many of these are subject to export controls or concentrated global supply, and the company reported delivering purities between 99.9% and 99.999% for these materials. It is generally at or below prevailing Chinese market levels, according to ReElement.

The company uses a refining platform originally developed by Purdue University for pharmaceutical purification, which has been adapted to separate rare earth elements and critical minerals.

The modular system is designed to operate across varied feedstocks with a smaller environmental footprint than traditional solvent extraction methods. ReElement highlighted the system’s lower chemical use, reduced spatial requirements, and minimal waste as key factors that simplify permitting and co-location with feedstock sources or end users.

“We're proud to launch this collaborative tolling service for customers committed to building stable, long-term US-based supply chains,” ReElement CEO Mark Jensen said in a statement.

“If your operations require separated and purified rare earth oxides, reach out to our team - we're ready to help reduce your dependence on inefficient and unstable global supply channels. We firmly believe there's no other group in the US capable of matching our combination of technical performance and pricing in delivering high-purity, refined rare earth and critical mineral products."

ReElement is feedstock-agnostic and plans to expand its tolling service to include additional feedstocks, including SEG, SEG+, MREC, MREO, and other ore-based materials. The company also intends to continue its antimony refining services.

Shares of American Resources traded nearly 14% higher on the update on Friday.
