Intel Corp (NASDAQ:INTC, ETR:INL) has completed the spinout of its RealSense division, establishing the computer vision and depth-sensing business as an independent company backed by $50 million in Series A funding.
RealSense, which has operated within Intel for more than a decade, will now focus on advancing AI-powered vision systems for robotics, biometrics, and automation.
The funding round was led by a semiconductor-focused private equity firm, with participation from Intel Capital, MediaTek Innovation Fund, and other strategic investors.
Intel retains a minority stake in the company.
Originally launched to support Intel’s 3D imaging and perception initiatives, RealSense developed stereo vision, structured light, and time-of-flight depth camera systems used in a wide range of applications, including robotics navigation, gesture control, and facial recognition.
Its technologies are embedded in an estimated 60% of autonomous mobile robots and humanoid robots globally, according to the company.
RealSense CEO Nadav Orbach, a longtime Intel executive, said the company will use the new capital to scale manufacturing, expand its global go-to-market operations, and accelerate hiring in AI, software, and robotics engineering.
“We’re excited to build on our leadership position in 3D perception in robotics and see scalable growth potential in the rise of physical AI,” Orbach said.
"Our independence allows us to move faster and innovate more boldly to adapt to rapidly changing market dynamics as we lead the charge in AI innovation and the coming robotics renaissance.”
RealSense’s existing customer base of over 3,000 companies includes users across robotics, security, and assistive technology.
Shares of Intel traded down 2.4% at about $23 on the update.
