Green360 Technologies Limited (ASX:GT3) has kicked off a major milestone in its low-carbon construction strategy, launching a bulk calcining run of more than 450 tonnes of high-purity kaolin from its Pittong Operation in Victoria to produce high-reactivity metakaolin.
The calcined product, used as a high-performance substitute for traditional Portland cement, is now being prepared for dispatch to key government and industry stakeholders for testing and evaluation.
This marks a critical step in Green360’s push to supply the construction sector with cost-competitive, low-emission materials that support global decarbonisation goals.
“We have rapidly moved from laboratory-scale testing to now producing commercial quantities of our innovative, high-quality metakaolin product,” said Green360 Executive Chairman Aaron Banks. “This latest development means that we are ready to meet industry demand for one of the most valuable materials in modern construction — a low-cost, low-carbon replacement for traditional cement.”
Commercial-scale production and testing under way
The 457.7-tonne run was sourced from a mix of high-grade raw ore and reclaimed material from historical tailings at the Pittong site. This blend supports Green360’s circular economy model by transforming previously discarded material into a high-value, environmentally friendly input for the building sector.
The company’s metakaolin has been shown in laboratory studies — conducted in partnership with Murdoch University — to contain more than 88% amorphous material, placing it at the top end of global quality benchmarks for metakaolin, which typically range from 55–75%.
This quality gives it broad utility in both replacing Portland cement and potentially substituting for silica fume in advanced concrete mixes.
Pathway to commercialisation
The calcined product will now be delivered to a range of industry and government partners for real-world testing and performance trials. Assessments will focus on compressive strength, durability, workability, ASR mitigation and resistance to environmental stressors.
Multiple state and federal departments are expected to trial Green360’s metakaolin in infrastructure projects requiring low-carbon building materials.
“Our low-carbon cement formulations and high-quality, advanced metakaolin can help potential customers, from government to private industry, reduce their usage of Portland cement without compromising on performance or cost,” Banks said.
“Importantly, our product isn’t just low carbon — it’s also low cost, thanks to our use of reclaimed tailings material,” he added. “This gives us a sustainable cost advantage and aligns our business with the principles of a circular economy.”
Operational readiness
Green360 says its ability to produce commercial quantities of metakaolin validates its operational readiness and positions the company to scale in a fast-growing market for sustainable construction solutions.
The company plans to announce specific industry and infrastructure projects where its material will be used, as testing outcomes and supply agreements are finalised.
