Janus Electric Holdings Ltd COO and founder Lex Forsyth talked with Proactive about the company’s new commercial supply agreement with North American manufacturer Electrovaya Inc. The agreement will see Electrovaya supply advanced lithium-ion battery packs to power Janus's advanced exchangeable battery system.
Forsyth explained that the new battery packs will support Janus’s rollout of zero-emission freight solutions across Australia and internationally. He said the new platform offers a 16% increase in usable energy capacity and reduces battery weight by nearly 500 kilograms — a significant gain in vehicle payload and efficiency.
“The battery is a six-year warranty with 8,000 cycles,” Forsyth noted, adding that the design’s 14,000-cycle life could extend the battery asset life to between 20 to 23 years — a sharp improvement from the current 8 to 9-year lifespan.
Forsyth said the deal enables Janus to scale manufacturing with a strong global partner. He also highlighted Electrovaya’s track record, noting its battery technology is used in Toyota’s electric forklifts and Raymond trucks worldwide.
Looking ahead, Forsyth said the company expects an uptick in orders over the quarter, along with the rollout of its lighter Flex JCM unit, which also brings manufacturing efficiencies and improved margins.
