X CEO Linda Yaccarino steps down after two-year tenure

Linda Yaccarino said on Wednesday she is stepping down as chief executive officer of X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, marking the end of a two-year tenure under owner Elon Musk.

Yaccarino announced her departure in a post on the platform, calling her time at X “the opportunity of a lifetime.” She did not provide a reason for stepping down.

“When Elon and I first spoke of his vision for X, I knew it would be the opportunity of a lifetime to carry out the extraordinary mission of this company,” she wrote. “I’m immensely grateful to him for entrusting me with the responsibility of protecting free speech, turning the company around, and transforming X into the Everything App.”

Yaccarino joined X in 2023 after leading NBCUniversal’s global advertising business for nearly 12 years. She was brought in at a time when the company was grappling with advertiser departures following Musk’s takeover.

Under her leadership, X undertook efforts to restore brand safety, launched new features such as Community Notes and introduced upcoming financial services like X Money. The company is on track to grow ad revenue in 2025 for the first time since 2021.

“I’m incredibly proud of the X team—the historic business turnaround we have accomplished together has been nothing short of remarkable,” she said.

X has not yet named a successor.
