Janus Electric Holdings Ltd (ASX:JNS) has signed a commercial supply agreement with North American battery manufacturer Electrovaya Inc (TSX:EFL, OTCQB:EFLVF) to source advanced lithium-ion battery packs for its swappable battery platform.
The deal will see Electrovaya develop and supply customised, high-performance batteries engineered to extend vehicle range, reduce weight, and increase asset life — supporting Janus’ rollout of zero-emissions freight solutions across Australia.
The new batteries, built on Electrovaya’s Infinity Battery Technology Platform, are designed for long life, enhanced safety, and improved operational efficiency, helping Janus expand its Energy-as-a-Service and truck conversion offering across key freight corridors.
Longer life, lower weight, faster deployment
Under the deal, Janus and Electrovaya will jointly develop a custom battery pack that delivers meaningful performance and operational gains over current systems. Highlights include:
- A 12% increase in usable energy capacity per pack, improving truck range
- A reduction of about 500 kilograms in battery weight, enabling greater payload
- A cycle life of up to 14,000 charges, extending operational life to around 20 years
- Enhanced warranty terms — six years or 8,000 cycles, up from four years
- Elimination of internal battery manufacturing, streamlining production and reducing risk
“Securing a world-class battery partner was a key strategic priority for us following our ASX listing,” said Janus CEO Ian Campbell.
“We’ve now delivered on that objective. Partnering with Electrovaya significantly strengthens our battery platform by introducing a proven, safe, and high-cycle life solution that aligns with the needs of our customers and our future scaling plans.”
Campbell also highlighted the broader strategic value of the agreement, noting it “removes bottlenecks in internal production, reduces operational risk, and accelerates Janus’ ability to scale our Conversion, Battery, and Energy-as-a-Service model.”
Battery upgrade key to scaling zero-emissions freight
Janus chief operating officer and founder Lex Forsyth said the partnership directly supports the company’s post-listing goals of upgrading battery technology and scaling rapidly.
“This agreement achieves that,” he said. “Electrovaya’s proven technology — with zero recorded safety incidents — and its strong pedigree supplying major global OEMs, gives us and our customers the highest level of confidence.
“Combined with access to Electrovaya’s international dealer infrastructure, the new JB650 Battery platform will deliver lighter, longer-lasting and safer batteries to fleets across key freight corridors. This is critical to unlocking zero-emissions heavy transport at scale.”
Terms of the deal
The three-year agreement, which will automatically extend unless terminated with notice, includes a US$1.34 million development program to customise the battery pack to Janus’ needs. Janus will own the intellectual property related to the battery design and form factor (excluding the underlying cell technology).
Electrovaya will also be required to maintain insurance coverage, facilitate a site visit by Janus, and enter into a service level agreement before deliveries begin.
Founded in 2019 as a retrofit startup converting diesel trucks to electric drivetrains, Janus has since evolved into a full-service electrification provider for the heavy transport sector. The company listed on the ASX in May 2025 through a reverse acquisition of Renu Energy, marking its transition into a nationally scaled, zero-emissions freight solutions provider.
