Alphabet’s Isomorphic Labs set to begin human trials for AI-developed drugs

Alphabet Inc's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Isomorphic Labs is preparing to begin human trials for drugs created using artificial intelligence, marking a potential breakthrough in pharmaceutical development.

Founded in 2021 out of DeepMind’s AlphaFold protein modelling system, Isomorphic blends AI expertise with pharmaceutical science to develop drugs faster and more accurately.

Colin Murdoch, president of Isomorphic and a senior executive at Google DeepMind, told Fortune that clinical trials for its AI-designed treatments are now close to launch.

The company has grown rapidly, signing major research deals with Eli Lilly and Novartis and raising $600 million from investors earlier this year.

Isomorphic supports drug development for partners while also building its own pipeline of candidates for early-stage testing.

Murdoch said AI could reduce the time and cost of drug discovery while boosting success rates.

The goal, he added, is to build a platform capable of designing new treatments with a level of precision and speed that was previously unimaginable.
