Ambiq Micro files for IPO, aims to power edge AI revolution

Ambiq Micro, a semiconductor firm specialising in ultra-low power chips, has filed for an initial public offering as it looks to capitalise on the rising demand for efficient AI computing at the edge.

The Austin-based company designs chips that consume significantly less energy than conventional alternatives.

Its technology is already embedded in more than 270 million devices globally, with over 42 million chips shipped last year alone.

Around 40% of those units were used to run artificial intelligence algorithms in applications ranging from wearables and healthcare to smart homes and industrial sensors.

Ambiq sees strong growth ahead in edge computing, processing data closer to the source rather than in large data centres, where power efficiency is crucial.

The company plans to extend its chip designs into automotive systems and AI infrastructure
