OpenAI co-founder Sutskever steps up to lead AI Safe Superintelligence

OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever has taken over as chief executive of Safe Superintelligence, the artificial intelligence startup he launched last year, following the departure of former CEO Daniel Gross to Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:META, ETR:FB2A, SWX:FB).

Sutskever announced the leadership change on social media, confirming that Gross had exited the company on 29 June, and that fellow co-founder Daniel Levy will now serve as president.

The change comes as Meta intensifies its AI talent push, recently launching Meta Superintelligence Labs and reportedly attempting to acquire Safe Superintelligence earlier this year.

That approach was rejected, with Sutskever reaffirming the company’s independence. “

Despite Gross’s exit, Sutskever insisted the startup remains well-resourced.

Safe Superintelligence was valued at $32 billion in an April fundraising round.
