Liberty Star Uranium & Metals Corp. (OTCQB:LBSR) announced that it has initiated a three-dimensional induced polarization (3D IP) geophysical survey at its Red Rock Canyon (RRC) gold project, located within the Hay Mountain project area in southeastern Arizona.
The goal of the survey is to better define subsurface targets for potential future exploration, the company said on Monday.
It will cover approximately 10 acres across sections of the property that have shown evidence of gold mineralization in past drilling.
Liberty Star said that the survey is designed to map the distribution of pyrite, commonly associated with gold mineralization, at both surface and shallow depths. The pole-to-pole array configuration is expected to enhance resolution across the selected area.
Data from the 3D IP survey will be compared to historic drill hole records in an effort to prioritize exploration targets near previously identified mineralized zones.
“The 3D IP survey calibration will show us where to drill by lighting up the gold at depth extensively,” Liberty Star vice president of field operations Jay Crawford said in a statement.
Crawford noted that this cutting-edge technology will allow the company to survey depths of up to 500 feet, significantly deeper than traditional methods.
“Combined with our recent fieldwork analyzing near-surface geochemical data, the 3D IP survey will refine our drill targets and focus exploration on the most promising areas of the RRC property,” Crawford said. “We are excited to follow up this survey with additional drilling, including a targeted drill program.”
The survey will be conducted by Sub Rosa Monitoring, a Tucson-based geophysical services firm.
The company’s chief technical officer, Dr Jim Fink, a registered geological engineer and geophysicist, will lead the technical work.
