Trump says buyer lined up for TikTok US, pending China approval

Donald Trump has said a buyer has been found for TikTok’s US operations, though he did not name the group, describing them only as “very wealthy people.”

The sale would require approval from China and President Xi Jinping, the US President noted during a Fox News interview.

ByteDance, TikTok’s Chinese owner, has resisted pressure to sell since the Trump administration first raised the issue over national security concerns.

A January deadline for divestment has been extended multiple times, most recently by 90 days.

A previous deal involving Oracle, Blackstone and Andreessen Horowitz stalled amid rising trade tensions.

Trump’s comments follow signs of progress in wider US-China trade talks, after officials agreed a framework during discussions held in London earlier this month.
