OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said he and Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ:MSFT) CEO Satya Nadella had a “super nice call” on Monday to discuss the future of Microsoft’s multi-billion-dollar investment in OpenAI.
Speaking on a New York Times podcast, Altman described the relationship as “really wonderfully good” and said the collaboration has been beneficial for both sides.
This comes as Microsoft is reviewing key aspects of its investment in OpenAI, including the size of its future equity stake.
OpenAI needs Microsoft's approval to transition from a nonprofit to a commercial entity by the end of the year to secure further investments.
At the same time, Microsoft has been developing its own artificial intelligence models and exploring partnerships with other AI companies, which has complicated its relationship with OpenAI.
Additionally, Altman mentioned having productive talks with US President Donald Trump about artificial intelligence, crediting Trump with understanding the geopolitical and economic importance of the technology.
