Zynex Inc (NASDAQ:ZYXI) announced that it has been issued a UK patent for its multiparameter, non-invasive sepsis monitor.
Zynex's technology is designed to continuously track multiple physiological signals with the goal of providing early alerts on patient trends and potential sepsis development.
Sepsis is a critical medical condition involving systemic inflammation and organ dysfunction triggered by infection. Due to the complexity of its early diagnosis, sepsis remains a significant cause of hospital-related deaths.
In the US, sepsis affects at least 1.7 million people each year, contributing to one in three hospital deaths, according to the Centers for Disease Control.
Zynex’s device aims to address the challenges of early detection, which has long been emphasized by the Surviving Sepsis Campaign, a global initiative led by critical care physicians.
"Sepsis is a global health crisis with a mortality rate among the highest of any medical issue," Zynex CEO Thomas Sandgaard said in a statement.
“We have an opportunity to develop a non-invasive, highly accurate monitor that can provide real-time information to clinicians that could help to drastically reduce this. We will develop this technology by leveraging our competencies of cardiac monitoring technologies."
