Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) has announced plans to invest £40 billion in the UK over the next three years, significantly expanding its footprint and creating thousands of jobs.
The investment includes the construction of four new fulfilment centres: Two already confirmed in Hull and Northampton, and two more planned for the East Midlands by 2027. Each site is expected to employ around 2,000 people.
Already employing approximately 75,000 workers in the UK, Amazon will also expand its London headquarters and upgrade its delivery network.
The total investment includes previously announced spending on data centres, staff wages, and facilities such as Bray Film Studios in Berkshire.
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer hailed the move as a “massive vote of confidence” in the UK’s economy, while Amazon CEO Andy Jassy emphasised the nationwide scope of the expansion.
Despite the positive outlook, concerns remain over working conditions and regulatory scrutiny.
