Cambridge Cognition Holdings PLC (AIM:COG) said its investee company Monument Therapeutics has reported positive phase I trial results for a new schizophrenia treatment, paving the way for further clinical development.
Monument, in which the AIM-listed digital health group holds a 20% stake, is developing MT1988 to treat cognitive impairment associated with schizophrenia (CIAS), a key unmet need in psychiatric medicine.
The candidate showed favourable safety and tolerability, supporting progression to phase II studies.
CIAS significantly affects patients' ability to function day-to-day, yet there are currently no approved therapies targeting the condition.
Cambridge said its digital cognitive assessment tools helped define the endpoints used in early development.
The company originally spun out Monument as an independent precision neuroscience firm.
In addition to its equity interest, Cambridge holds royalty rights on MT1988 and other assets, potentially entitling it to future revenues if the treatments are commercialised.
The trial results mark a milestone in targeting cognitive symptoms in schizophrenia.
