Meta steps up its game with Oakley smart glasses

Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:META, ETR:FB2A, SWX:FB) is stepping up its smart glasses game with a new collaboration with Oakley.

The limited-edition Oakley Meta HSTN model, priced at $499, opens for preorder on July 11, with other Oakley models using Meta’s tech available later this summer starting at $399.

Like Meta’s existing Ray-Ban glasses, these Oakley frames include a front-facing camera, open-ear speakers, and built-in microphones.

Once paired with a smartphone, users can listen to music, take calls, or interact with Meta AI. The AI can describe what the wearer sees and even translate languages on the fly.

Targeted at athletes, these glasses offer IPX4 water resistance and double the battery life of Meta Ray-Bans—lasting up to 8 hours, with a charging case extending that to 48 hours. The camera shoots in 3K video, a step up from Ray-Ban’s 1080p.

The range includes five frame and lens options, including prescription compatibility. The $499 limited edition features gold accents and Oakley PRIZM lenses. They’ll be sold across the US, Europe, Canada, and Australia.

This launch follows Meta’s multi-year deal with EssilorLuxottica, owner of Oakley and Ray-Ban.

The Meta Ray-Bans have sold over two million pairs, with plans to sell 10 million smart glasses annually by 2026. Meta calls this its “first step into the performance category,” hinting more innovations are on the way.
