SoftBank Group founder Masayoshi Son is considering developing a $1 trillion industrial hub in Arizona focused on robotics and artificial intelligence, according to Bloomberg.
The project aims to revive advanced technology manufacturing in the US and create a hub similar to China’s Shenzhen.
Son is exploring a partnership with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), which is already investing $165 billion in US chip plants, though TSMC’s role remains uncertain.
Discussions with American federal and state officials have included potential tax incentives to attract investment. SoftBank is also gauging interest from other tech firms such as Samsung Electronics.
The plan, called Project Crystal Land, is still in early stages and hinges on government support. This initiative follows SoftBank’s recent investments, including acquisitions and funding commitments in the semiconductor and AI sectors.
