X to add investment and trading features in ‘everything app’ push

Elon Musk’s social media platform X is planning to offer investment and trading features as part of its push to become a “super app” or an “everything app” comparable to China’s WeChat.

X CEO Linda Yaccarino said the platform’s goal is to become an "everything app" where users can engage in financial transactions seamlessly.

"You'll be able to come to X and be able to transact your whole financial life on the platform,” Yaccarino said during an interview at the Cannes Lions Festival.

“And that’s whether I can pay you for the pizza that we shared last night or make an investment or a trade. So that’s the future.”

She added that X is also considering the introduction of an X credit or debit card as soon as this year.

X previously announced that it has partnered with Visa to offer a real-time payment system called X Money, a peer-to-peer payment service, later this year.

X Money will launch in the US first and will allow users to buy merchandise, store value or tip creators, Yuccarino said.

“A whole commerce ecosystem and a financial ecosystem is going to emerge on the platform that does not exist today,” she said.
