US president Donald Trump is set to sign an executive order extending the deadline for TikTok’s Chinese parent company, ByteDance, to divest its US operations by an additional 90 days.
The extension allows TikTok to continue operating in the United States despite a bipartisan law passed in 2024 that requires ByteDance to sell TikTok to a US-based owner or face a nationwide ban due to national security concerns.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Tuesday that Trump would sign the order delaying the deadline this week.
"As he has said many times, President Trump does not want TikTok to go dark,” Leavitt said in a statement.
“This extension will last 90 days, which the Administration will spend working to ensure this deal is closed so that the American people can continue to use TikTok with the assurance that their data is safe and secure.”
The extension is the third delay since Trump took office in January 2025. Without the extension, the deadline for the sale was June 19.
