Samsung Electronics (KRX:005930) and Nvidia Corp (NASDAQ:NVDA, ETR:NVD) are taking minority stakes in Skild AI, a robotics software start-up, as both companies deepen their involvement in consumer robotics.
Samsung is investing $10 million and Nvidia $25 million as part of Skild’s Series B round, which is being led by a $100 million contribution from SoftBank and is expected to value the company at around $4.5 billion.
Based in California, Skild develops software designed to power intelligent robots and autonomous systems.
While Samsung views the investment as a way to monitor Skild’s progress without heavy exposure, it also allows the company to stay aligned with domestic rivals LG and Hanwha, which have also backed Skild.
Nvidia, meanwhile, is promoting the concept of “physical AI”, robots and machines capable of independent reasoning, as a future driver of growth.
The move follows Samsung’s recent backing of Physical Intelligence and highlights growing global interest in AI-powered robotics from tech giants including Tesla, Amazon and Alphabet.
