Livium Ltd CEO and managing director Simon Linge talked with Proactive about the company’s strategy to expand its role in the circular economy through rare earth element recovery.
Livium is taking steps to extend its established battery recycling capabilities into the recovery of rare earth elements from used components such as magnets in wind turbines and electric motors. Linge discussed how this move supports the company’s broader strategy to grow its adjacent services and resource streams.
“This step not only builds on the recycling of batteries, which we've been doing steadily, but steps into another area where we can add to circularity,” Linge said.
The company has entered into early strategic discussions with both Australian and international rare earth developers as it aims to secure a place in this growing market, forecast to reach US$9.60 billion globally by 2026. Linge noted synergies with Livium’s existing clients in grid storage, wind energy, and electric vehicles.
Livium is also advancing other initiatives, including the development of a battery materials demonstration facility and a joint development agreement with Mineral Resources. Linge said the coming months will see further updates on these projects, as well as potential licensing of technology into non-core areas.
