Black Swan Graphene (TSX-V:SWAN) announced that it has ordered a next-generation production unit, increasing its annual graphene production capacity from 40 tonnes to 140 tonnes, positioning it among the leading graphene producers globally.
The new system, the GEA Ariete 3160, is a modular high-pressure homogenizer developed in collaboration with GEA and customized to Black Swan’s proprietary specifications.
It will be installed at the company’s existing facility at Thomas Swan & Co Ltd in Consett, the United Kingdom.
The site already has the necessary infrastructure and utilities, enabling lower capital expenditure and faster deployment, Black Swan highlighted.
The expanded capacity is intended to support increasing demand across sectors, including polymers, composites, plastics, coatings, and concrete.
The company pointed out that active commercial agreements, strategic partnerships, and a growing sales pipeline are drivers of the scale-up.
"This expansion marks a pivotal milestone in our evolution; it is not just an increase in production capacity, but another step toward industrial scale,” Black Swan CEO Simon Marcotte said in a statement.
“As demand for our products increases and several customer development programs are advancing, this investment positions us to meet both current and future market needs with confidence."
The investment was partially funded by proceeds from a recent equity financing.
Additional funds have been used to hire sales and operations personnel to support expanded global activities.
Black Swan has already launched seven Graphene Enhanced Masterbatch (GEM) polymer products and is advancing concrete admixtures developed with Concretene and The University of Manchester’s GEIC. These admixtures aim to reduce cement usage and carbon emissions by up to 30%.
"Graphene-enhanced materials are moving from promise to deployment, and Black Swan is at the center of that transition,” Black Swan chief operating officer Michael Edwards said.
“With our Graphene Enhanced Masterbatch polymer products now in commercial rollout and our concrete admixtures showing clear sustainability gains, our ability to deliver consistently and at scale is what sets us apart."
Shares of Black Swan added 2.6% in early Tuesday trading in Toronto, reaching C$0.79.
