Livium taps NoviqTech to tokenise battery recycling’s environmental benefits

Livium Ltd (ASX:LIT, OTC:LMMFF) has teamed up with artificial intelligence and ledger technology firm NoviqTech Ltd to bring a digital edge to its advanced battery recycling operations, announcing a project partnership to tokenise the environmental benefits of its work.

The initiative, powered by NoviqTech’s Carbon Central platform and Hedera’s distributed ledger, will create tokenised digital certificates that represent verified carbon reductions and critical mineral recovery from Livium’s facilities.

This novel approach positions Livium at the forefront of sustainability reporting in the battery supply chain, offering real-time environmental tracking and aligning with emerging global standards such as the EU’s battery passport regulation.

Livium CEO and managing director Simon Linge said the partnership aligns with a global trend of governments prioritising the modernisation of equipment and environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices.

“Partnering with NoviqTech allows us to bring digital innovation to our recycling operations, providing verifiable evidence of the carbon and resource savings we deliver,” he said.

“It’s a major step forward in supporting the battery supply chain’s transition to a circular and low-emissions model.”

Digital twins and real-time carbon accounting

Under the agreement, NoviqTech will model Livium’s operations using its proprietary Digital Twin technology, creating a virtual replica of recycling processes to automate sustainability reporting.

This includes tracking:

  • Emissions savings from recycling versus virgin extraction;
  • Energy efficiency metrics;
  • Mass balance of recovered minerals like lithium, nickel and cobalt; and
  • Traceable generation of environmental certificates.

Livium’s data will be integrated into Carbon Central, where tokenised environmental attributes can be logged, verified and reported using immutable records on the Hedera ledger.

The platform is designed to support compliance with new regulations around critical minerals traceability and emissions disclosures — key as global battery markets tighten reporting rules.

Scaling up with sustainability

The announcement comes as Livium prepares to consolidate its operations on a larger site in Western Australia and expand nationally — a move recently backed by a state government grant.

Tokenisation will support this growth by helping Livium monetise its sustainability outcomes and offer verifiable ESG credentials to customers, investors and regulators.

For NoviqTech, the agreement deepens its footprint in the critical minerals space and extends its technology’s application into battery recycling – a sector with growing urgency and visibility.

“Our Carbon Central platform will help transform how battery recycling’s environmental benefits are quantified and monetised, boosting transparency and trust across the value chain,” said NoviqTech CEO Freddy El Turk.

Commercial terms and future outlook

Livium will subscribe to Carbon Central under a $1,000-per-month basic tier, with per-token fees to apply once the platform is fully operational. Token volumes will reset monthly, and either party can terminate the agreement with 30 days’ notice.

While initial revenues are yet to be quantified, both companies expect the platform to play a central role in shaping data-driven circularity solutions for critical minerals.

The partnership marks a strategic leap in digital sustainability for Livium, which rebranded from Lithium Australia in 2023 and now operates Australia’s leading battery recycling facility.
