AMC Entertainment shares soar as blockbuster weekend breaks revenue records

AMC Entertainment Holdings (NYSE:AMC) shares soared after the cinema chain reported record weekend revenue over Memorial Day, driven by strong openings from Disney’s Lilo & Stitch and Paramount's Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.

It set all-time weekend records for admissions revenue, food and beverage revenue and overall revenue at its US locations.

The company also noted that Thursday through Monday marked its third-largest five-day revenue intake in more than a decade.

More than 7 million people attended AMC locations in the US and ODEON cinemas internationally over the five-day period.

AMC CEO Adam Aron said it appears the industry is finally turning a corner.

“Since early April, weekend after weekend, moviegoers have been demonstrating their preference for theatrical moviegoing. A record-setting Memorial Day holiday is yet another sign of the continued strength and relevance of moviegoing in 2025,” Aron said.

“With many more potentially huge movies coming in June all the way through the end of 2025, and beyond that deeply into 2026 as well, we firmly expect to be enjoying a robust theatrical box office as we look ahead.”

Aron thanked AMC’s studio partners at Disney and Paramount for creating stories that resonated with moviegoers.

“Their creative efforts, combined with AMC’s continued focus on enhanced sight, sound, and comfort, led to AMC Entertainment enjoying one of the most successful weekends in our company’s history,” the CEO said.

Shares of AMC traded 24% higher at about $4 in the early afternoon on Tuesday.
