Graphene Manufacturing Group Ltd (TSX-V:GMG, OTCQX:GMGMF) said in-house engine tests of its G Lubricant showed a 10% improvement in energy efficiency and a 33% reduction in diesel particulate emissions when added to a Caterpillar 22 kVA diesel engine running at 80% load.
The company said the results followed the addition of three doses of the graphene-based lubricant to standard diesel engine oil, bringing the maximum graphene content to 0.03% by weight.
The engine used in the test was previously experiencing overheating during extended high-load operations. GMG said the addition of G Lubricant appeared to help stabilize the engine’s performance, though more testing is underway to evaluate long-term effects.
“G Lubricant is not only increasing fuel efficiency, it is also reducing particulate matter—which is amazing to see,” CEO Craig Nicol said in a statement. “We will need to do more tests to see what the long-term performance is for this.”
The testing was conducted at GMG’s facility in Richlands, Australia, using a calibrated diesel emissions test kit, particulate matter monitor, and energy analyzers. Baseline measurements were recorded using new premium engine oil and a fresh oil filter, under controlled temperature and humidity conditions.
The company said only steady-state data was used for analysis, and any anomalies were removed. The final lubricant mixture resulted in an approximate graphene-to-oil ratio of 3:10,000 by weight.
GMG Chairman Jack Perkowski called the results “fantastic news,” and said the data showed “great promise as a way to reduce fuel costs and emissions across the multi-trillion dollar liquid fuels industry.”
The company said additional performance tests are underway.
