Disney's Lilo & Stitch powers Memorial Day box office to new record

The 2025 Memorial Day weekend box office reached new highs, driven by Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch and the latest Mission: Impossible film.

Lilo & Stitch is projected to earn approximately $183 million over the four-day weekend, setting a new Memorial Day opening record and surpassing the previous benchmark held by Top Gun: Maverick, which made $126 million over the weekend and $160 million across four days in 2022.

The film took in about $145.5 million over the traditional three-day period.

Lilo & Stitch also booked the second-largest start over any four-day holiday weekend, behind Black Panther, which brought in $242 million over President’s Day in 2018.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning brought in an estimated $77 million, marking the strongest opening in the franchise’s history.

The total domestic box office is expected to total between $322 million and $325 million for the weekend, overtaking the 2013 record of $314 million set by titles including Fast & Furious 6 and The Hangover Part III.
