Citi has described Tesco PLC's (LSE:TSCO) latest executive changes as a modest positive, highlighting strong succession planning and renewed focus on higher-margin income streams.
The reshuffle is expected to have a neutral to slightly positive impact on the shares.
Ashwin Prasad, currently chief product officer, will take over as UK chief executive from Matthew Barnes at the end of June. Natasha Adams, who has led Tesco’s Ireland and Northern Ireland operations, will move into a newly created role as chief strategy and transformation officer on 9 June. Geoff Byrne will succeed her.
The new role reflects Tesco’s ambition to scale newer revenue lines, including its retail media business, Clubcard personalisation and Tesco Marketplace.
These initiatives sit outside the core food business and are viewed by the group as key to long-term margin growth.
Citi said the appointments show clear management continuity while signalling strategic intent to develop income streams beyond groceries.
The shares were flat at 380.6p
