Neuroprotective and cardioprotective properties
Nyrada said that the drug has shown both neuroprotective and cardioprotective properties in preclinical models. It highlighted that recent cardiac study results demonstrated 86% preservation of myocardial tissue, a critical factor in maintaining heart function post-injury.
In a follow-up rat model study, the company confirmed earlier findings and reported new evidence of anti-arrhythmic activity. It said that this is particularly significant because arrhythmias are a major cause of sudden cardiac death following heart attacks.
The Phase I clinical trial involves five escalating dose cohorts in healthy volunteers. Nyrada said that two cohorts have been completed with no safety concerns. The company expects to complete the study by the third quarter of 2025.
Looking ahead, the company said it plans to initiate Phase II trials involving patients with acute brain and heart injuries. It stated that this stage will provide further insights into the drug’s efficacy in its intended clinical population.
