Greggs hails 'viral' mac & cheese as sales improve

Greggs PLC (LSE:GRG) reported an improvement in sales growth in recent weeks, which it attributed to "better trading conditions" and product innovation.

Total sales were up 7.4% to £784 million in the first 20 weeks of 2025, with like-for-like growth of 2.9%.

This compares to LFL growth of 1.7% in the first nine weeks of the year and 2.5% in the fourth quarter of last year.

The FTSE 250-listed bakery chain said new products included peach iced tea and mint lemonade, which were popular in the recent hot weather, while pizza boxes saw strong demand and a newly launched mac & cheese "went viral on TikTok".

Having improved LFL sales in what the company said remains a "challenging market context", especially in a period where year-on-year growth is up against the strongest performance in 2024, there was no change to the full-year outlook.

Cost inflation is still expected to be around 6% this year, with plans for managing inflationary headwinds "progressing well".
