B&M European Value Retail SA (LSE:BME) has appointed a new chief executive, Tjeerd Jegen, former boss of Dutch discounter HEMA and German chain Takko Fashion.
The FTSE 250-listed group said Jegen will take the reins from interim CEO Mike Schmidt in mid-June.
It said his appointment followed a "comprehensive executive search process" after previous boss Alex Russo quit alongside a profit warning in February.
Board chair Tiffany Hall said Jegen "is a highly talented international business leader with in-depth retail experience gained in Europe, Asia and Australasia across the grocery, general merchandise and value sectors".
Until recently, he was CEO of e-bike manufacturer Accell Group for 18 months, following 19 months as CEO of European clothing discounter Takko Fashion and six years in the same role at Dutch discounter HEMA.
Before that, he was Romania chief for German cash and carry chain Metro, and divisional leader for Tesco in Thailand and Malaysia and Woolworth Australia.
Hall said he "stood out from a strong list of candidates due to his strategic insight, customer-centric approach, and strong track record of driving growth and transformation".
Jegen said he was keen to "build on the company's strong foundations and take it to the next level".
