Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ:MSFT) has announced it is laying off about 3% of its global workforce, impacting about 6,000 employees across all levels, teams, and locations.
“We continue to implement organizational changes necessary to best position the company for success in a dynamic marketplace,” a Microsoft spokesperson said in a statement to CNBC.
The spokesperson added that one objective of the layoffs is to reduce layers of management. The layoffs are not related to performance, they added.
This marks the second-largest headcount reduction since Microsoft cut about 10,000 jobs in 2023.
The company employed 228,000 employees globally as of the end of June 2024.
