OpenAI and Microsoft reportedly renegotiate terms as IPO ambitions grow

OpenAI is in advanced talks with Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ:MSFT) to revise the terms of their multibillion-dollar partnership as it prepares for a possible stock market listing, the Financial Times reports.

The discussions centre on how much equity Microsoft will hold in OpenAI’s restructured business, following more than $13 billion in investment.

The pair are also updating a long-term contract that governs Microsoft’s access to OpenAI’s models and technology.

OpenAI plans to convert its for-profit arm into a public benefit corporation, a structure that allows it to raise capital while pursuing broader social goals.

The negotiations are seen as crucial to securing future funding and preserving investor support, as the group shifts away from its original non-profit framework.
