Jeff Bezos' personal investment firm, Bezos Expeditions, is leading a $72 million funding round in AI data startup Toloka, the company told Reuters on Wednesday.
Toloka, part of Nasdaq-listed Nebius Group, provides human oversight and testing to help train and evaluate artificial intelligence models.
The funding will help Toloka scale its US operations as demand for reliable AI data solutions accelerates.
Bezos joins a growing list of high-profile backers for the company, which has worked with tech giants Amazon, Microsoft and Anthropic. Shopify CTO Mikhail Parakhin is also participating in the round and will become executive chairman of Toloka's newly formed board of directors, Nebius said.
Nebius, based in Amsterdam, emerged from a $5.4 billion deal that split the international and domestic assets of Russian tech firm Yandex, marking the largest corporate exit from Russia since the 2022 invasion of Ukraine. The restructuring paved the way for US investment in its international business.
Chipmaker Nvidia was among the investors in a $700 million Nebius private placement late last year.
