Tesla sales in UK plunge to two-year low

Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) saw UK new car sales in April fall 62% year-on-year despite a rise in overall battery electric vehicles in the month.

The US EV company sold just 536 new cars in Britain, down from over 1,400 in the same month a year ago, to what was a two-year low.

Tesla's market share of EV sales in the UK so far this year was 9.3%, data from New AutoMotive showed.

Total EV registrations rose in April, UK industry figures showed today, with an 8% rise year-on-year.

Recent sales figures in Europe have been weak for Tesla, with declines across markets including Spain, Germany, and the Nordic region.

For the first four months of 2025, sales were down 17% year-on-year, even as the overall EV market saw sales increase 54%.

Tesla boss Elon Musk’s public ties to Donald Trump and far-right politics have triggered protests and vandalism at showrooms and charging stations.

Tesla's first-quarter global sales and profit missed estimates, with Musk saying he would scale back on his political engagements.
