The US and Ukraine have signed a minerals deal granting privileged access to new investment projects to develop the Eastern European country's natural resources, including aluminium, graphite, oil, and natural gas.
Overnight, the US Treasury Department said an agreement had been signed to establish the US-Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund.
In said the economic partnership was in "recognition of the significant financial and material support" that the US have provided to the defence of Ukraine since Russia’s invasion.
The two countries will work and invest together to accelerate Ukraine’s economic recovery, it added.
"Thanks to President Trump’s tireless efforts to secure a lasting peace, I am glad to announce the signing of today’s historic economic partnership agreement between the United States and Ukraine," said US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
"As the President has said, the United States is committed to helping facilitate the end of this cruel and senseless war.
"This agreement signals clearly to Russia that the Trump Administration is committed to a peace process centered on a free, sovereign, and prosperous Ukraine over the long term.
"President Trump envisioned this partnership between the American people and the Ukrainian people to show both sides’ commitment to lasting peace and prosperity in Ukraine.
"And to be clear, no state or person who financed or supplied the Russian war machine will be allowed to benefit from the reconstruction of Ukraine."
Russia's response was a large-scale drone attack on Ukraine overnight, while ex-president Dmitry Medvedev said saying Trump had "finally broken the Kyiv regime into paying for American aid".
Financial market analyst Neil Wilson at Saxo said the Ukraine deal "is positive from a peace deal perspective and probably risk-on overall for Europe", noting that Germany's DAX and France's CAC both trade higher this morning while oil prices were down, which hit the FTSE 100.
