The FTSE 100 is taking a breather from its recent winning streak as a mixed bag of results filters through the market.
An hour into trading, the blue chip index was down about 11 points, or just over a tenth of a percent, at 8,484.
Lloyds fell 2% on the back of its first-quarter update and housebuilder Persimmon also fell more than 2% after its own trading update, even though it says it remains on track for full-year targets.
Rolls-Royce is one of the top risers, up 3.3%, after reporting a strong start to the year.
Shares in National Grid are down 1% after it announced the retirement of longstanding chief executive John Pettigrew.
Clarkson shares are sinking again, down 12% to 2,890p and hitting a 14-month low earlier, after a profit warning from the shipping services group.
And the market has taken a glass-half-full view of Whitbread's prelims, with shares in the Premier Inn owner up 4% in early trading.
