FireFly Metals Ltd says it has delivered a strong March quarter at its Green Bay Copper-Gold Project in Newfoundland, Canada, with six drill rigs now operating and results continuing to underpin plans for a large-scale mining operation.
Transformational year
FireFly expects 2025 to be a transformational year, with a focus on growing the Green Bay resource, progressing engineering studies and defining a long-life production scenario in a tier-one jurisdiction.
“The key planks of our value-creation strategy are now really coming together, setting us up for what we expect will be a very successful and rewarding six months or so,” FireFly managing director Steve Parsons said.
“We are generating outstanding results from extending the known mineralisation and testing new targets.
“The mineralisation continues to get better at depth, as shown by the exceptionally high-grade results being returned from drilling off the exploration drill drive.
“The infill drilling results are also very strong, demonstrating excellent continuity which supports our plan to convert inferred resources to indicated, unlocking further value in the process.
“The outlook for copper and the demand for world-scale producers in tier-one locations is increasingly favourable.
“We expect our mining studies will highlight FireFly’s potential to capitalise on this growing opportunity by outlining a substantial production profile with a long life.”
Continuity and scale
At the project, the company reported high-grade intersections from both the volcanic massive sulphide (VMS) and footwall stringer zones, which confirm the continuity and scale of the mineralised system.
Notable recent drill results include 14.2 metres at 7.5% copper equivalent (CuEq), 10.7 metres at 12.2% CuEq, and 66.8 metres at 2.1% CuEq.
The infill drilling is central to FireFly’s strategy to convert inferred resources into measured and indicated categories, and will underpin upcoming mining studies.
FireFly has completed some 69,000 metres of its planned 130,000-metre drill program, with an additional underground rig expected to arrive in May to accelerate the campaign.
Drilling has also picked out new high-grade zones at the northern extent of the Mineral Resource, with intersections such as 86.3 metres at 3.7% CuEq and 58.2 metres at 3.1% CuEq.
There are three core objectives for FireFly: resource growth, upgrading the existing resource and making new discoveries.
Mineral resource updates and mining studies are scheduled for release in late Q3 and Q4 2025.
FireFly also continues to progress surface exploration near the Ming mine and has mobilised geophysical crews to follow up targets from a 2024 airborne VTEM survey.
The broader Green Bay Mineral Resource currently stands at 24.4 million tonnes at 1.9% CuEq (measured and indicated) and 34.5 million tonnes at 2.0% CuEq (inferred).
Corporate health
The company remains well-capitalised, with A$59.1 million in cash and liquid assets at 31 March 2025.
Net cash outflows for the quarter included A$13.2 million in exploration and development spending and A$3.0 million in operating activities.
Strategic plans are also underway for FireFly’s 70%-owned Pickle Crow Gold Project, where a review process is being conducted by BMO Capital Markets to assess potential value realisation options.
