Ocean Power Technologies Inc (NYSE-A:OPTT) announced that it has shipped a Wave Adaptive Modular Vessel (WAM-V) 22-foot vessel equipped with autonomous capabilities designed for extended offshore surveys.
The company said the vessel can operate continuously for multiple days without returning to base, supporting 24/7 payload operations.
The shipment follows a successful three-day remote demonstration in which the WAM-V conducted continuous survey work using a simulated payload.
Ocean Power Technologies CEO Philipp Stratmann described the development as a “great milestone” for the company.
"The vastness of the Pacific Ocean makes this an important capability for our customers,” Stratmann said.
“This design enables the WAM-V to conduct prolonged operations inclusive of survey, maritime security, and/or environmental research with a complex array of above and below the waterline sensing capability.”
