Nvidia shares marked lower in pre-market trading amid AI chip threat from Huawei

Nvidia Corp (NASDAQ:NVDA, ETR:NVD) shares were marked lower in pre-market trading on Monday after reports that China’s Huawei Technologies is preparing to test a new high-end artificial intelligence chip aimed at rivalling Nvidia’s flagship products.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Huawei’s Ascend 910D chip is expected to challenge Nvidia’s H100 processor, with sample batches ready as soon as late May.

Huawei has already approached Chinese tech companies to begin technical testing.

Meanwhile, Reuters reported that Huawei plans to start mass shipments of its 910C AI chip to domestic customers next month.

The US has blocked China’s access to Nvidia’s most advanced AI hardware, including the H100 and new B200 chips, as part of efforts to curb China’s technological and military development.

Ahead of the bell, Nvidia's stock was marked down 1.4%,
