Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL, ETR:APC) is planning to assemble all iPhones destined for the US market in India as early as next year, according to multiple reports citing sources close to the company.
The move marks a major shift in its global supply chain, prompted by US President Donald Trump’s escalating trade war with China.
The iPhone maker is aiming to build enough capacity in India to supply over 60 million units annually to American consumers by the end of 2026.
That would require doubling the current Indian output and marks a significant acceleration in Apple’s production diversification strategy.
Though most iPhones are still made in China, mainly by Foxconn, Apple has steadily expanded Indian assembly through partners like Tata Electronics and Foxconn.
The company recently began exporting India-made iPhones to the US to avoid steep China-focused tariffs.
