Vance to visit India amid rising US-China trade tensions

US Vice President JD Vance will begin a four-day visit to India on 21 April, marking his first official trip to the country since taking office.

The timing is significant, coming amid escalating trade tensions between the United States and China, and as Washington seeks to strengthen ties with key partners in the region.

Vance is set to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the first day of his visit, with talks expected to focus on trade, economic cooperation and geopolitical alignment.

His visit follows renewed momentum in trade negotiations between India and the US, as both sides aim to finalise a deal by the autumn.

The trip also comes shortly after the US imposed sweeping tariffs on Chinese goods and announced temporary levies on Indian imports.

Vance will travel to India after visiting Italy.
