Unilever, Tesla, Google, Asos, AJ Bell and first post-tariff PMI data – the week ahead

A holiday-shortened week includes trading updates from the likes of Tesla, Unilever, Asos, AJ Bell and Google owner Alphabet.

Economic updates include flash PMIs surveys for the UK, Europe and US that could provide some of the first post-tariff data, along with UK retail sales, and confidence figures for both businesses and consumers.

The UK financial calendar is fairly quiet as markets get up and running after the long Easter weekend.

Attention will be focused on Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) later in the day, with what has been popular with investors on both sides of the Atlantic in recent years beset by a sharp recent slide.

UK earnings look quiet again on Wednesday, with more corporate action in the US, including Boeing, Philip Morris and IBM.

Mid-week macro could be interesting, with the PMI surveys for many major economies revealing data for the first two weeks after Donald Trump's 'liberation day' announcement on so-called reciprocal tariffs.

Thursday 24 April

Unilever PLC (LSE:ULVR) is the biggest of the UK quarterly reporters this week, fresh from the fast-moving consumer goods giant parting ways with its CEO in February.

Analysts at Citi sees the long-term investment case but warned that the consumer goods giant faces a sluggish first half, with weak demand expected in developed markets and a subdued pricing environment in Asia. Tariffs commentary will be interesting...read more

A second-quarter update from AJ Bell PLC (LSE:AJB) comes with the shares down 14% since hitting an all-time high last autumn, after rival HL was taken private. The last update in January showed all the key numbers moving in the right direction and recently Deutsche Bank returned the shares to its 'buy' list...read more

ASOS PLC (LSE:ASC) climbed off recent 17-year lows on the back of an update that was helped by a return to growth in full-price sales across its own-label ranges. But some analysts said not to read too much into it...read more
