OpenAI is developing its own social media platform similar to X, formerly known as Twitter, according to a report by The Verge citing multiple sources familiar with the matter.
The platform, currently in its early stages, reportedly includes an internal prototype featuring a social feed centered around ChatGPT’s image generation capabilities.
It remains unclear whether the new service will launch as a standalone app or be integrated into the existing ChatGPT application, the report said.
A move into social networking would place OpenAI in direct competition with companies like Meta Platforms and could further escalate tensions between OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and X-owner Elon Musk. Musk, an early supporter of OpenAI, has since become a vocal critic and has filed a lawsuit against the company over its shift from a nonprofit to a for-profit business model.
