Octopus Renewables Infrastructure Trust PLC (LSE:ORIT) co-fund manager Director David Bird presented at the Proactive One2One Investor Forum about the investment strategy behind the trust and its efforts to drive both sustainable income and capital growth. He outlined how renewable energy not only addresses decarbonisation but also tackles energy costs and security of supply.
Bird explained how the trust is backed by Octopus Energy Generation, a group with a unique insight into the energy market’s future, particularly with customers becoming central to usage flexibility. The portfolio comprises over 45 assets across eight countries, supported by a 150-strong team including engineers and industry experts.
“We view diversification as being just as important within renewable energy as it is when you're looking at your investment portfolio more generally,” Bird said, referencing the trust’s exposure to both wind and solar across various European geographies.
The trust, alongside its operational portfolio, also focuses on construction-stage investments and developer-level projects to enhance returns, having delivered an 11.3% IRR on its first investment in Sweden. Bird also noted the trust’s track record of consistent dividend growth and capital returns, backed by inflation-linked contracts and long-term power agreements.
