Idenburg: Far East Gold hits high grade gold

Far East Gold Ltd earlier this week discussed the discovery of a new high-grade gold zone at its Idenburg Project. The company said this find increases the number of known prospect areas at the site to fifteen.

Highlights

  • Far East Gold identified a new quartz vein zone at the Idenburg Project, bringing the total to 15 known prospect areas.
  • Only 30% of the project area has been explored to date.
  • The newly identified “East Burma” vein is approximately five metres thick with high-grade gold from surface grab samples.
  • A Phase One drilling campaign is set to begin, comprising 3,670 metres across 32 drill holes.
  • The campaign targets expansion of the existing maiden JORC resource of 540,000oz at 4.1g/t.
  • Drilling rigs are en route, with programs expanding beyond the initial focus areas of Beaumont, Suer, and Murphy.
  • Company expects to encounter double-digit gold and silver grades, and also notes base metals (lead, zinc, antimony) in promising quantities.

Drilling expansion

The new quartz vein zone, identified east of the Burma Prospect, was uncovered through surface grab sampling. The company said the outcrop is approximately five metres thick and returned high-grade and bonanza-grade gold assay results.

Far East Gold highlighted that only 30 percent of the project area has been explored to date. It said this provides further potential for additional discoveries as mapping continues.

As a result of the find, the company will expand its planned Phase One drilling campaign to include the new East Burma zone. The campaign will cover 3,670 metres and comprise 32 drill holes. The company said drilling rigs are already in transit.

The objective is to build on the maiden JORC resource of 540,000 ounces at 4.1 grams per tonne. The company said it will target extensions of known mineralisation both laterally and at depth.

Far East Gold also noted the presence of base metals in the region. It said lead, zinc and antimony have been observed in reasonable grades. The company added that early signs point to a potentially large and significant mineral system.
